Ancestry tests are performed to determine an individual’s bio-geographic ancestry. Whether you’re interested in researching your family history, or just simply want to learn more about yourself, this test can provide you with a better understanding of your genetic ancestry and provide a window into further research about your possible ancestors. While DNA test results for extended family relationships are not as conclusive as a DNA paternity test or other close relationship DNA tests, they can support a distant biological relationship, such as cousins. Those researching their genealogy or the DNA Ancestry often use DNA Testing for Extended Family to verify paternal or maternal ancestry for distant relatives. Ancestry Testing for Paternal or Maternal Line Comparisons
When comparing paternal or maternal lineage, DNA testing examines Y-chromosome (Y-DNA) or mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) profiles from two (or more) individuals. If the DNA profiles are an exact match, the tested individuals share a common link within four generations—and could be as closely related as siblings or cousins. If the profiles do not match, a close relationship to that individual, such as siblings, cousins, or aunt/uncle, is not possible. Paternal and maternal line comparison results are not as informative for close relationships as other types of DNA relationship testing. DNA tests for Y-DNA or mtDNA comparisons, however, may be the only DNA testing option in some cases. We can design a test to suit your needs and include any number of individuals.
